Gold DofE Expedition to Snowdonia

After several practice expeditions our Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award students from Year 12 today finished their epic final expedition across Snowdonia.

 

The team arrived in Betws-y-coed, having walked 58km across Snowdonia and just short of 2,500 m of ascent (the equivalent of climbing Ben Nevis twice!). Our student team demonstrated outstanding teamwork, strong navigation skills and a really positive can-do mindset across the expedition which involved camping for four nights and carrying all their own equipment. Whilst supervised from a safe distance the students had to be unaccompanied by teachers to prove they could navigate themselves and thrive in the wilderness in order to be awarded.

 

Through wind, rain, lightning and sunshine students finally arrived in the sun at Betws-y-coed to enjoy delicious ice cream as a much deserved reward. A special peanut butter flavour tub of ice cream for the DofE assessors dog was very much enjoyed by their four legged companion. The verdict is that this challenge was definitely worth it! Students should be very proud of themselves.
