Rugby U13B V Perse School B & Felsted School B - Triangular Fixture

20th September 2017

Pitsford kicked off their second game of the season against a large and organised Felsted side. A powerful run through the middle of the park saw Felsted cross for the first of their tries.

The first 5 minutes was a relatively scrappy affair with both sides often fumbling the ball. As the half went on it was Felsted who corrected their handling errors, with big carriers and quick hands it seemed to be too much for the Pitsford defence to deal with.

Having said this Pitsford did seem to be getting some joy in the scrum, against a much larger pack they were more than holding their own and at times marching the Felsted boys back. The pack was being led by Toby C who seemed to be a man on a mission.

Yet again the quick hands managed to beat the Pitsford defence for another score. The introduction of Tom M on the wing was a bit of a turning point as he was simply phenomenal in defence.

Luca M and Carl M seemed to start firing in the centre and with some quick ball provided from Joshua R. This gave the Pitsford attack a sniff of a score, unfortunately another handling error saw Felsted turn defence to attach and cross for another try.

HT Felsted 4 - 0 Pitsford

Unfortunately the second half was much the same for the Pitsford boys who try as they might were being muscled across the park. The Felsted boys didn't seem to be tiring!

Missed tackles, handling errors and lack of numbers in the break down saw Felsted score a further 4 tries in the half.

FT Felsted 8 - 0 Pitsford

Man of the Match - Tom M

Pitsford received the kick off in their second game of the day. Off the back of the first loss the boys were extremely positive and really enjoying the rugby.

Scrum time. In the first game Pitsford were dominant in the scrum and yet again were confident they would be able to control this part of the game as well as they had before. This time, the Perse boys appeared a much smaller side than the previous opponent. However it was not to be, as the scrum became a bit of a mess. Joshua R, not fazed by the messy ball, did well getting it out as quickly as possible - again showing good signs at scrum half.

With both sides offloading out of the tackle well, the first qurater was quite evenly matched. The skilful running backs of The Perse started to wear down the Pitsford defence and we conceded 3 quick tries.

However once again the Pitsford boys lead by Luca M and now Liam R kept their heads held high and dug deep to stop the scoring. Some good defensive work saw the ball being turned over repeatedly. Harris C showed some good handling again to give the Pitsford boys hope of a score, but it wasn't to be.

HT Perse 4 - 0 Pitsford

The second half again was a big determined defensive effort but unfortunately the boys were running out of steam a little and just could cope with some slick play from the Perse.

There were some barnstorming runs from Joshua R and Jay S, we need to improve our support play to capitalise on these types of run in future weeks.

FT Perse 7 - 0 Pitsford

Man of the Match - Joshua R

A tough day at the office, but a solid scrum in the first game and the 'never say die' attitude in the second game showed that when we can keep the ball, we can string some good phases together.
