This was a trip filled with both poignancy and fun. It is is a special cross curricular trip that allows us to bring both the French and History curricula to life. As a History trip we enhanced our study of European History, visiting the Vimy memorial to learn about those who fell for our freedom. We took time to read some of the 1,100 names engraved on the monument and then visited the Commonwealth Cemetery, also remembering those who never had a name or grave.
We are so lucky to be hosted each year by the fabulous staff and pupils of College d’Europe. This is invaluable to our study of the French language. We shared time with them in school, taking lessons in their setting and even delivered presentations in French to the pupils who will visit us later in 2020.
We made additional cultural forays to a cider farm where we got to help make the apple juice (and bring some home), a visit to the aquarium (where we spoke French to the fish) and finally a french market in the lovely and most historic town of Boulogne.
