Welcome to the Reception class at Pitsford School

Our Reception aged children are taught by an experienced and qualified teacher and a Nursery Nurse. We are very lucky to have a purpose built outdoor classroom and access to masses of outdoor space including an orchard, garden, fields and a small wooded area.

We have always prioritised Physical Development as a crucial part of the curriculum and spend a great deal of time outdoors, offering physical opportunities every day such as ballet and PE lessons taught by specialist teachers.

Within the seven areas of learning we place great emphasis on PSED and the acquisition of language skills, particularly speaking and listening in preparation for reading and writing.  Children learn to read when they are ready, making rapid progress and enjoying stories and books.  Each child reads daily on their own individual reading programme.  Independent writing and spelling leads on naturally as the next stage.  Our children are confident, enthusiastic and above all independent learners.

Our half termly topics give many opportunities for practical, hands on learning and include lots of extra-curricular opportunities such as theatre trips, visits, forest school days etc.  Learning is both challenging and fun with a good balance of teacher led and child initiated tasks.

Our latest inspection report stated that ‘the overall quality and standards in the EYFS are excellent’. We have high expectations and support and extend learning, taking account of individual interests and needs.  Our children feel happy, safe and secure in our care.

To fully appreciate what we can offer your child, please contact our Registrar on 01604 880306 and she will be happy to show you around at a time that is convenient for you.
